Ensuring safety, performance, and quality, developer Berkeley St Edwards has specified the Viega Profipress system for one of their latest residential projects. The high-quality pipework installation for heating and drinking water sits at the heart of the prestigious West End Gate apartments in central London.

Key to the specification was a system for delivering both potable and heating water without any risk to hygiene. The installation required the piping system to guarantee this quality to the differing heights of the towers and above all, it had to be faultless, future proof and guaranteed to last.

Berkeley St Edwards had already made the switch to press connections over soldering given the speed and safety benefits for those on site. The decision to specify the Viega Profipress system came down to the highly positive experience from previous installations.

Kevin Guiry, Senior MEP Manager for Berkeley St Edwards, said this on the choice: “Viega was specified in the first phase block, and it was fantastic. As such, we approved the spec for the next phase as per the previous block. The contractor who received the contract used their same core operatives which resulted in a consistent, clean installation.”

“Quality was our top priority, both in terms of the water system and the products used. With all the heating and chilled distribution pipework running in a closed system, we needed a solution to guarantee clean and safe water without contamination. The copper Profipress system delivers this alongside real on-site benefits.” Kevin continued.

Berkeley St Edwards intends to keep using the Profipress system for the remaining blocks given the safety and speed benefits already achieved. The nature of the project requires quality products inside and out, with Viega perfectly placed to meet this.

“I’m a big believer in quality and with this system we’re getting the best quality fittings for this premium development. We didn’t want to risk any further maintenance or damage and the Viega Profipress system achieves this.” Kevin summarised.

The development is due to be completed in 2025 with the first four tower blocks already completed and offering fantastic views of the surrounding neighbourhood.
